Tifa Lockhart Cosplay Contact Lenses: A Two-Colour Match
Two colours have to agree in this cosplay: dark hair and a red eye. Miss the balance and either the face looks muddy or the eyes look bolted on.
Dark hair eats light
Black hair reflects almost nothing, so the face loses the bounce light that usually brightens the eyes. The lens has to hold its own saturation without any help from the hair.
Do not go too dark
Reaching for a deep, dark red to “match” the hair is the classic mistake. It disappears into the shadow of the fringe. A medium, warm red reads as red even when the hair around it is black.
The fringe is the enemy
Keep the near fringe swept clear of the eye. A few millimetres of clearance is the difference between a full iris and a sliver of colour.
Shoot into the light, not away
With dark hair you want the light coming toward the face. Turn into a window or a booth light and the eyes catch it. Turn away and everything under the hair goes black.
The review we hear most
“Shot with dark hair and a red lens and it worked because the red was warm, not dark. Lesson learned.”
