Gyro Zeppeli Cosplay Contact Lenses: The Overhead Angle
The most flattering angle for most cosplay portraits is slightly above eye level. It is also the fastest way to kill a blue lens, because the lid comes down and the iris loses its top half.
What the overhead angle does
Camera above the chin, subject looking up. It slims the face and looks polished. It also hides the upper iris in shadow and cuts the visible colour by a third.
How to keep the blue visible
Tilt the head down a touch more than feels natural. Counter-intuitive, but it opens the eyelid and lets the camera see the whole iris again. Then let the eyes travel up to the lens.
The hat has to cooperate
Wide brim, camera above. If the brim shadows the eyes, no lens will read. Check the viewfinder at the actual angle before you commit to the pose.
Blue in shade
The hat brim makes its own shade, and blue is one of the colours that survives shade well. Keep the lens a clear, bright blue and this angle works instead of fighting you.
The review we hear most
“Every overhead shot I tried went dark until I dropped the chin. Same angle, whole different photo.”
