When the Pupil Becomes a Slit

Most blue contact lenses only recolor the iris. This one changes how the eye reads: the graphic centre is a narrow upright slit, so a straight-on camera look gives you that cold dragon stare. The Blue, Up Close

A bright, saturated blue core spreads outward in a fine dotted mesh and densens into a darker edge rim. The pale slit sits against that blue with no grey mud in the centre and no washed-out edge. Around a slit pupil, that density is what makes it fantasy rather than a party lens.

On Camera and on the Con Floor

Shoot at eye level, flash off, with light in front of you — booth lamps, a window, a friend’s phone light. In group photos where everyone else wears round lenses, the slit is what people zoom in on. Stage gels deepen the blue; for a soft pastel set, ease off and let the iris carry it.

Makeup, Wig and Outfit

Keep upper liner thin and sharp and leave the lower waterline clean — a heavy lower line flattens the slit into a smear. Lavender, silver and white wigs, white collars, dark vests and red ribbons frame this blue; warm orange or brick shadow pulls against it. A narrow, slightly arched brow echoes the pupil’s vertical pull.
