A Cyan Blue Halftone Dot Mesh With a Black Rim

The print is a fine halftone dot mesh: tightly packed dots in a vivid cyan blue, radiating from a clear center and staying dense to the edge, closed by a solid black rim. That dark ring is the defining edge — it tells the eye where to stop, so the iris reads as drawn rather than tinted. On the eye, the blue covers the center-to-mid area at medium-to-high intensity while the rim stays clearly visible, and the clear center lets your own pupil sit as a dark point inside all that blue. Ring light and flash catch white specular highlights without flattening the dot texture.

Shooting It: Ring Light, Flash, Convention Floor

Direct flash and ring light keep the cyan bright while the black rim keeps the iris outline intact in wide, full-body convention frames. Con halls mix tungsten, LED and window light, so I shoot one test frame at eye level, set white balance off it, then start the set — with the wig on, since fiber bounces color into the cheekbones. For a sharper Jinx expression, drop the chin slightly; the rim reads stronger when the lid covers a sliver of the iris.

Costume, Wig and Makeup Pairing

Because the blue is bright and cool, I keep eyeshadow warm-neutral and skip blue shadow; two competing blues flatten each other on camera. Smudged black liner, a soft brown in the crease and a muted lip leave the color in the eyes. For Jinx, pull the lower liner out and let it smudge next to a chopped blue wig. Trim and glue lace the day before, and check the lens against wig fiber in daylight — a teal-leaning wig pushes the iris colder.
